Artists who have stayed at Kyoto Next Door
From established international artists to first-time visitors picking up
a pen for fun, Kyoto Next Door has welcomed creative guests from around
the world — regardless of fame or medium.
Masamune Sato
Otsu-e Artist, Atelier Seikaiha / Otsu
Masamune Sato is an Otsu-e artist based in Otsu, working under the name
Atelier Seikaiha. His original Otsu-e paintings are displayed throughout
Kyoto Next Door, and he also created the handmade nameplate (yago) that
hangs at the property’s entrance.
Dima
Industrial Designer / Illustrator, Russia
Dima, an industrial designer from Russia, stayed at Kyoto Next Door and
joined an Otsu-e painting class with local artist Masamune Sato. Beyond
Otsu-e, he also spent his time drawing character portraits in his own
distinctive style — from Steve Jobs to Hayao Miyazaki.
Kristina Rozhkova
Photographer, Russia
Photographer Kristina Rozhkova stayed at Kyoto Next Door during her
time in Japan. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions,
including “unbewitched” at PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO.
Roberto Hayashi (Elssaca)
Poet / Artist, Chile
Chilean poet and visual artist Roberto Hayashi (Elssaca) stayed at Kyoto
Next Door with a group of acquaintances during his time in Japan. His work
has been exhibited in Chile, including “Del Zen al Haiku,” a solo show of
ink paintings inspired by haiku.
